Changing information and renewing your mark
There are various ways in which you can change the details of your trade mark and you must renew your trade mark regularly to keep it in force.
Changing
Transferring ownership (assigning)
You can transfer ownership of your trade mark to someone else. This includes any change of ownership as a result of company mergers.
Changing or appointing an attorney
You can appoint a trade mark attorney, to deal with your application or some complicated part of the procedures for you.
Changing your name or address
If you change your name or address you should tell us so that we can update the trade marks register.
Correcting an error
You can correct an error in your application or trade mark registration.
Cancelling your trade mark
You can cancel your trade mark registration at any time.
Altering your trade mark after registration
What you can do if you want to amend your trade mark after it has been registered.
Renewing
Renewing your trade mark
You can renew your trade mark for ever. To keep your trade mark in force, you must renew it on the 10th anniversary of the filing date and every 10 years after that. You may, of course, choose not to renew it.
Restoration
If you do not renew your trade mark in the 6 months after the renewal date, you have a further 6 months to apply to restore your registration.
